The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works as a part of our interprofessional team and is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric illness in youth participating in our programs.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Initiates referrals for specialist consultations such as psychological testing or neurological evaluation, as needed.
  • Collaborates with members of the interprofessional team (e.g. physicians, nurses psychologists, social workers, psychiatrist, school personnel) to discuss treatment plans and progress. Attends and participates in staff and treatment meetings, provides consultation to the treatment team about clinical issues, and participates in agency committees or work groups as deemed appropriate.
  • Provides education to youth and their families, as well as team members about mental health and medical conditions, health promotion, medications and treatment plans.
  • Provides psychopharmacology consultation and intervention, including prescription of psychotropic medications. Evaluates the effectiveness of prescribed medication while considering potential side effects.

Master’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing, current NYS NP licensure required. At least 1 year of relevant child/adolescent psychiatry experience preferred. The ideal candidate would have experience with and passion for working with children and/or adolescents diagnosed with complex mental and/or behavioral health conditions in a team based environment. National certification is preferred.  Applicants must have a valid NYS driver's license and must meet agency driving requirements.
