The Skill Builder will work with youth in our Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) and will perform functions that assist in the care and treatment of youth and families in the program. This person will work with youth in their foster homes and also assists youth in developing life and social skills. Some coached family visitations will be required. On-call rotation will be required following completion of the 120 day provisional period.

This position is full time, 40 hours per week, typically after-school hours. Applicants must be available to work day and evening hours to meet the needs of the program and clients. Some weekend hours may be required during on call rotation, after 120 day provisional period has been completed. 

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Recognizes differentiating children/youth/families behaviors and participates within designated service teams to develop treatment and behavior management plans.
  • Based on skills and experience, the Skill Builder III also executes such plans aimed at assisting children/youth/families in achieving their personal goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for managing children/youth/family activities within an individual or group dynamic, assuring the safety of the children/youth/families(s) assigned, and applying appropriate emergency and crisis intervention principles and techniques.
  • Proactively maintains current knowledge of the children/youth/families’ emotional/behavior status, assesses the effectiveness of service plans, and supports children/youth/families interactions with family and local community.
  • Continually demonstrates the emotional confidence and good judgment required to build productive, engaged children/youth/families and family relationships, while implementing required rules and routines.

Skillbuilder I: High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 1 year of relevant social work/skill building experience is required. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and no relevant experience may also be considered.

Skillbuilder III: High School Diploma or GED and at least 2-3 years of relevant social work/skill building experience is required. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of experience may also be considered.

All applicants must have a valid, unrestricted NYS driver's license, their own reliable vehicle and must meet Hillside driving and insurance requirements. Mileage reimbursement is provided!
