We are currently hiring for a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist III at our Chenango Forks, NY location. This is a full time (40 hour) position with hours being between Monday-Friday between 11am – 7pm.

 

The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist III is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing recreational activities for an assigned program or campus, as well as responsibility for recreation center supervision, risk management and safety. The person in this role must perform all job requirements with independence, must have the ability to organize and deliver more complex training, is depended upon for resolution of more complex problems/issues, may perform supervisory functions, and serves as a role model for Therapeutic Recreation Specialist I staff.

 

Essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Provides supervision of recreation center facilities including gym, pool, playground or other play areas to maintain an environment that is safe and secure.
  • Working as part of a treatment team, this position has a caseload of youth in which they assist in diagnosis and evaluation through recreation assessments,  developing a treatment goal and monitoring progress through appropriate documentation. 

  • Provides supervision of agency youth and their staff to monitor safety and quality of youth participation.

  • Provides recreation programs, activity leadership and team building initiatives that promote healthy leisure lifestyle choices, psychomotor skills, and growth and socialization development.

  • May have involvement with special clubs or hobby groups (i.e. bike club, plant club, arts and crafts, camping, girl or boy scouts).

  • Recognizes and addresses aggressive student/youth behavior and is trained and proficient in behavior management and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).

  • Seeks recreational resource development including community contacts, free tickets, special events and activity supply needs.

  • Assists youth in positive play experiences through role modeling, skill development and provision of recreation opportunities.

  • Writes concise yet thorough assessment narratives, goals and objectives, and progress notes.

  • Performs other duties as requested including but not limited to equipment repair and upkeep, special event planning, work order submittals, safety inspections and fund raising.

  • Provides direct care services as needed.


Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and 1-3 years of experience in youth recreation within a human services environment is required.  Candidates with 3-5 years of experience are preferred.  Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is required. Candidates should have a valid driver’s license and meet agency driving standards.
